i have no idea where this recipe originated, but it is the ultimate polish comfort food to me. it is a very versatile recipe, as i have made it several times with cooked, sliced cabbage instead of the sauerkraut; substituted cream of celery soup for cream of chicken, and i have even made this once using ham in place of the pork. it uses simple ingredients, and only needs a big loaf of bread or fresh rolls with butter to satisfy any growling belly:)

💬 Reviews (I made a few adjustments. These got a ton of compliments at Bible Study tonight! I tripled the original recipe to make three dozen): Mix dry ingredients and set aside: Dry ingredients: 3 c. white whole wheat flour, 3 c. oatmeal, 2 t. nutmeg, 6 t. cinnamon, 6 t. baking powder, 3 t. salt. Then mix the wet ingredients. Wet Ingredients: 3 eggs (beaten), 2-1/4 c. milk, 1-1/2 c. apple sauce (in place of oil), 1 T. of Vanilla, 2-1/2 c. raisins, 2 diced apples and 1 grated apple. Combine wet and dry ingredients. 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Mine did not rise much at all, so my 2nd two batches I filled up the cups all the way and baked a bit longer. These turned out great, but stuck to the paper liners. I think because I didn't use oil. I read that you can spray your liners and that will help, so I tried that on the last batch and it did help. I will definitely make these again!!!)

it sounds strange but i have been told by polish friends about dill pickle soup in the past so it has to be worth a try if only to try something different.

💬 Reviews (Way too salty, so cut to half the salt. Texture is good, sweetness just right once you remove extra salt. I added chopped walnuts.)

this recipe from a friend's family collection is so unlike most dilling recipes and one we enjoy. use non - reactive containers and pots. (use stainless steel, unchipped enamel/porcelain - be sure your plastic bowls and containers are food grade) i do not process these pickles but you may do so if you wish. if processing i would recommend a 10 minute boiling water bath.

💬 Reviews (I made this recipe today. It was fast and easy. I used coconut oil instead and added chia seeds.)

polish dill pickles made in a crock

🍴 Ingredients

cucumbers', 'dill', 'garlic cloves', 'grape leaves', 'white vinegar', 'water', 'salt'

🍳 Directions

place ingredients in bottom of crock with cucumbers', 'pour mixture over cucumbers', 'throw in a few more pieces of dill', 'submerge pickles under water by placing a plate on top weighed down by a jar of water', 'when a film appears , just skim it off', 'try tasting smaller pickles after 5 days'

👩 description

while my polish grandmother canned the world's best dill pickles, she made crock pickles to use up the over abundance of cucumbers. they were our favorites. i make them in smaller amounts using the ratio of ingredients to the amount of cucumbers. leave out the grape leaves if you can't find them. prep time does not include fermentation time.
