begin the cooking process of the macaroni- according to package directions', 'add cubed ham during the final minute or so of cooking the macaroni', 'drain and set aside', 'while water is heating and macaroni is cooking , make your white sauce: melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat', 'add flour and salt , and cook about 1 minute , stirring constantly with a wire whisk until mixture is smooth and bubbly', 'stir the milk into the mixture and bring to a boil', 'stirring constantly , boil mixture for 1 minute', 'lower heat and cook until thickened , stirring regularly about 4-6 minutes', 'remove white sauce from heat', 'add cheese', 'stir until melted', 'pepper to taste', 'combine cheese sauce with the macaroni and ham in a bowl', 'stir well', 'serve with a yummy green vegetable on the side like green beans or asparagus', 'enjoy !', chef's]

i ate the most incredible macaroni and cheese with ham that my wife brought home from some fancy restaurant in town known for their mac n cheese. (it was packaged in aluminum foil which was formed to look like a swan - i don't even want to know how much she paid for this dish!) anyway - since kraft doesn't make this in a box, i thought i'd try out my hand (and whisk) at making it from scratch. below is the result of many trials (and a few errors...) on my journey to mac 'n cheese perfection. i hope you enjoy this as much as my family. there are some recommendations at the bottom regarding different substitutions... i'd appreciate any feedback!
💬 Reviews (I turned this dish into a dessert and it was delicious! I wanted a quick dessert with my left over butternut squash, so just mixed cooked squash in with apple bits, mixed in pecans, topped with butter pats and poured maple syrup evenly over top. ommited currants, and added cinnamin and clove along with nutmeg. of course ommited pepper as well. Then cooked for only about 1/2 hour and topped with pecan date topping....2cups pecans, 4-5 dates, some vanilla and 1/4 tsp salt or so, mixed together in food processsor. Very good!!)

preheat oven to 350 degrees', 'place butter in large iron skillet and place in oven to melt', 'when butter is melted , stir in brown sugar , place back in oven and let that melt together', 'place 1 pie crust on top of the mixture that is in the skillet', 'mix together granulated sugar and cinnamon', 'place apple slices on top of pie crust and cover with the sugar / cinnamon mixture', 'place second pie crust on top and make small slits in crust and seal on the edges bake 45 minutes or until lightly browned', 'serve warm with a vanilla cream or ice cream'

💬 Reviews (This was delicious! It makes a sweet side dish, and could easily be made into a dessert. I had to make a few changes: I had to substitute Craisins for currants but that worked out perfectly. Also, I used about 1/2 of the recommended squash and apples, but I kept the measurements on the sauce and spices the same. I was going to reduce the juice into a syrup like Normaone recommended in another review. Instead, I ended up using the extra juice to save another recipe. :) Since it baked in so much juice, my recipe may have ended up sweeter than the original; I'm not sure. Either way, I'll be using this recipe again.)

preheat oven to 350f', 'spray skillet with non-stick cooking spray', 'melt the 2 tablespoons butter in large iron skillet , on top of stove', 'add brown sugar , mix well and turn off heat', 'press brown sugar mixture evenly onto bottom of skillet', 'arrange peaches and cherries , in any pattern you prefer , on top of the brown sugar', 'mix 1 / 2 cup softened butter and white sugar in bowl and blend well', 'add eggs , and blend', 'next add the flour , baking powder , salt and milk and blend until creamy', 'add vanilla flavoring and blend', 'spread batter on top of peaches and set pan on top of cookie sheet and bake for 1 hour', 'allow to cool for about 5 minutes , then run a knife along the edges of the skillet to loosen', 'place cake plate on top of skillet and invert , allowing cake to drop out of the skillet', 'serve warm with whipped cream on top'
